Wall Lights & Sconces
Plan wall lights at eye level, not as miniature ceiling fixtures
Wall lights shape how a room feels because they illuminate vertical surfaces and sit close to normal sightlines. They can frame a bed, mirror or artwork, guide movement through a corridor, or add a softer evening layer beside stronger ceiling light. The right choice depends on projection, mounting height and glare control as much as on style.
Start with the object or activity being served
For a bedside installation, measure from the finished mattress and headboard and check whether controls are reachable. In a hallway, preserve clear passage and avoid placing the brightest point directly at eye level. Around a mirror, consider whether the light reaches the face evenly and confirm that the exact fixture is suitable for the intended location. For decorative accent lighting, align the sconce with the furniture or architectural feature it frames rather than the wall alone.
Projection, pairing and proportion
Read the side profile as carefully as the front view. A deep shade or arm may work beside a sofa but feel intrusive in a narrow corridor. When using a pair, mark both centerlines and review the composition with the bed, console or artwork in place. A full-size paper outline is more reliable than judging from product photography.
Choose by application and material
Use bedside wall sconces for sleep spaces, hallway wall sconces for circulation areas and hotel wall sconces for project-oriented comparisons. Material-led options include marble wall sconces, alabaster wall sconces and glass wall sconces.
Specification checklist
- Measure width, height, projection and backplate dimensions.
- Confirm hardwired, plug-in or rechargeable operation for the exact variant.
- Review light direction, color temperature, dimming and source visibility.
